Benjamin M. Majok Mawel, P. Eng., is the company’s President and CEO and founder. He leads the organization, direction, and coordination of all administrative functions of the company, including business development and client retention.
Eng. Mawel earned his first engineering degree from The Technological University of Havana “José Antonio Echeverría” (CUJAE), in Havana, Cuba, in 1998, and his second engineering degree in Ryerson in Toronto, Ontario, in 2003. He is a member of the prestigious International Association of Civil and Geotechnical Engineers, and he is a certified professional engineer in the Province of Alberta, Canada. He has accumulated field experience of over twenty years.
A leading expert in geotechnical and civil engineering, construction and procurement in the oil & gas industry, Eng. Mawel has led, managed, coordinated and executed several important geotechnical engineering and construction projects in Canada and in South Sudan. He also has attended various training programs in engineering and construction across Canada.
He is both an excellent engineer and leader, who is frequently called upon for his wealth of experience. He leads mainly by example, always doing his best and encouraging others to do the same. While easygoing by nature, he commands the respect he deserves and no one doubts his authority. He is direct and decisive when he needs to be. He is respected not only by his peers, but his clients and business partners.
Prior to founding Liberty, he headed an engineering team at Syncrude Canada, an oil & gas company with a market cap of more than 75 billion dollars. Under his leadership, the services of the engineering team consistently ranked among the top performing departments from 2008 to 2011.
Femi Ade has over 25 years of consulting, construction, research and management experience in civil and environmental engineering. He has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from University of Ilorin, Nigeria and practised for three years as a structural engineer and a highway engineer before embarking on graduate studies at University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada where he obtained his doctorate degree.
Dr Ade worked for Golder Associates, Canada for about 14 years mostly on water management facilities for oil sands projects and their environmental impacts, covering all phases of project development including construction, operation and closure. While at Golder, Dr. Ade managed the Water Resources Group of about 30 employees for 2 years during which he was awarded the Integrity Award (2006) and the President’s Leadership Award, and his group got the Exceptional Group Performance Award (2007). He became an Associate of the company in 2006.
Dr Ade left Golder to work for Total Exploration & Production Canada (TEPCA) in 2011 as a Senior Environmental Advisor and Environmental Manager for Joslyn North Mine Project to manage environmental deliverables to support operations. In 2015, Dr. Ade accepted the position of Vice President of Liberty with responsibilities to oversee the day-to-day administrative and operational functions, as well as support business development efforts.
Henry Kiyonga is a civil engineer trained at Kyambogo University in Kampala. He has over 20 years of building and road construction experience in Uganda and South Sudan. He is also a teacher trained at Kyambogo University and he is registered by the Ministry of Education and Sports in Uganda.
Eng. Kiyonga joined Liberty in 2013 as a Senior Civil Engineer and since then he has executed several engineering and construction projects as a project engineer, quantity surveyor, project manager and technical advisor. Henry’s excellent leadership and perseverance have helped him to provide mentorship, training and professional guidance to many young engineers especially in the areas of project management, budget control and costing.
Eng. Kiyonga was promoted to the position of Engineering Manager in 2016 to oversee the Engineering Department and Procurement & Logistics Department.
